I think not.
Yellow is too bright.
What color is envy?
If you're living, you're feeling it.
When another is declared the champ
By someone who shouldn't be judging,
And you did better, but lost.
Is it orange?
I think not.
Orange is too warm.
What color is envy?
If you've worked, you've felt it.
When you're passed over for a promotion
by someone not as creditable as you,
And your value is ignored.
Is it red?
I think not.
Red is too fiery.
What color is envy?
If you've loved, you've felt it.
When you want to be loved exclusively
By someone who's special, but you're not,
And another has his or her heart.
Is it blue?
I think not.
Blue is too clear.
What color is envy?
If you suffer injustice, you've felt it.
When you want respect and are shunned
by someone who's prejudiced, you're not,
And there's nothing you can do.
Is it purple?
I think not.
Purple is too sacred.
What color is envy?
If you've been poor, you've felt it.
when talent and work isn't appreciated.
Someone pays low wages, bills mount,
and you work two or three jobs.
Is it black?
I think not.
Black is too inclusive.
What color is envy?
If you suffer alone, you've felt it,
when there's no response to your overtures
by a certain someone, no one cares but you,
and it appears you've been forgotten.
Is it green?
I think so.
Green is jealousy.
Green is the color that sustains plantlife,
and if not controlled,
it can become a jungle for vegetation.
Envy, likewise, can become a crime,
and if not controlled,
it becomes a jungle for the ruthless.
